ADRNC is excited and proud to bring to Northern California renowned mediator and ADR scholar Len Riskin, the Chesterfield Smith Professor of Law at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. Always pushing the boundaries of law and dispute resolution, his seminal articles detailing the conceptual underpinnings of ADR are among the most frequently cited in the field, and have shaped the practice of mediation here and around the world. Professor Riskin's recent scholarship focuses on the potential role of mindfulness practices in mediation, negotiation, and the law generally.

Len will be joined by three distinguished panelists, each nationally-known ADR professionals in their own right, and based here in Northern California.

·        Daniel Bowling is the former executive director of SPIDR, and oversaw its merger into ACR, then served as its founding executive director. He is co-editor/co-author of the book Bringing Peace into the Room, which introduced the concept of the importance of the mediator’s presence
to conflict resolution, and has taught ADR courses in law schools across North America. Daniel currently serves as a trainer and mediator for the renowned ADR program at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

·        ADRNC's own Dana Curtis is among the most respected mediators in the western United States, and is known for her innovative trainings for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and California Court of Appeal. She has taught mediation at Stanford Law School, and conducts trainings nationally and internationally.

·        Professor Clark Freshman is a nationally-recognized ADR scholar, mediator, and trainer with expertise in emotions, discrimination, and lie detection, among others things. His academic work is widely published, and he is frequently consulted by the media for his views on legal matters. Clark joined the faculty of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2007, after many years at the University of Miami.
