Session 2C
Session 2C: “Transformative Mediation: Purpose Drives Practice”

In this introductory workshop, participants will explore beliefs and values related to conflict through self-reflection and group discussion, and examine the use of analysis and reflection to strengthen our interventions to become more purposeful and effective as conflict intervenors. Time constraints will not allow for a full discussion of transformative theory. This session will touch on our beliefs about human capacity and the nature of conflict, and offer a brief introduction to the framework that underlies the practice of transformative mediation as described by Joseph P. Folger and Baruch Bush.

Speaker: Lou Ann Lucke is a mediation trainer, practitioner and non-profit consultant with over 17 years experience in the United Sates and United Kingdom. She has developed training curriculum for mediators of color and youth and directed the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties for over 5 years. As an Associate with the Institute for Conflict Transformation, co-founded by Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger, she was part of their first Training Design Project, and an original trainer for the United States Postal Service's REDRESS Program.
