The Virginia Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution cordially invites everyone interested in better conflict resolution to join us for an evening of networking at the James River Cellars Winery in Glen Allen (Richmond area) on Thursday March, 27, 2008. This event will also include a brief Annual Meeting and a timely presentation. Time: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Guest Speaker: Louis Vaughan of Building Bridges, LLC. “The Practice of Conflict Management in a Recessionary Economy”. Lou has managed and directed employee relations, recruitment and retention, dispute resolution, and training programs. Lou's strength is in people management, most significantly in the evaluation of current programs, and the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that enhance performance and personnel management effectiveness. Free! There is no fee to enjoy the opportunity to sample some of the 12 varieties of wines made in Virginia. Larger glasses of wine will be available for purchase. TOPIC: Collaborative and Cooperative Practice of Law: How Does A Mediator Fit in? A presentation on Collaborative and Cooperative Practices of law, how they developed, how they work and how these practices fit into the field of dispute resolution as practiced within our existing legal system. Material covered will include: · The response to this relatively recent phenomenon from the disputant’s perspective and the attorney’s perspective, · Sample agreements that the parties and attorneys execute if the client chooses to use a collaborative or cooperative process · How and when a mediator might be an alternative for all or some of the issues the parties bring to the table · Some of the legal ethical issues raised regarding this approach Approved for 2 hours of continuing mediation education credit (family or general)
