ACR OCM Update Dec 2002
Seasons Greetings from your Organizational Conflict Management (OCM) Section Chair!

As you may know, Steve Levecque and I assumed the roles of OCM co-chairs at the August 2002 ACR Conference in San Diego. While Steve regrettably asked ACR to accept his resignation effective December 1st given other competing priorities, he remains a section member who is committed to and passionate about OCM principles and practices.

Our section has a strong foundation and a dedicated membership. We have reached a stage where it is important to celebrate our successes, reconfirm our priorities, and identify new areas for growth and learning.

As such, I have set up an Interim OCM Leadership Committee* to help advance our section, which counts about 600 members in all! This Committee will be meeting at ACR on the February 1st weekend for a strategic planning session that builds off of the August OCM Section meeting. In preparation for this meeting and in keeping with our principles of transparency and inclusiveness, you are invited to provide your ideas and comments to inform our upcoming discussion on these matters:

· section mission,
· section vision,
· section goals,
· opportunities for strengthening our section, and
· any other key concerns, suggestions, or ideas you want to share.

Please review the ACR OCM Section meeting notes, attached here again for ease of reference, and provide feedback to me directly at leahborsa@eisa.com by Friday, January 24, 2002.

The Leadership meeting will result in a proposal to you, the OCM membership, for a section business plan. Through email and a quarterly conference calls starting next spring, we will seek further feedback from you to finalize this plan. Our hope and intent is for this business plan to provide a strong and forward-looking basis from which our section can thrive and grow, and support you in your own professional development.

In the meantime, here are some other updates:

The OCM Mutual Learning Network (MLN) Committee** will also meet at ACR in February to further develop our on-line horizontal (peer-to-peer) network prototype in collaboration with ACR.

Given our focus on the above strategy, and certain challenges ranging from affordability to competing member priorities, and the necessary lead time and effort, we will be holding our next OCM section conference along with the ACR Annual Conference next October in Orlando, Florida. By doing so we will be able to recreate the quality of the mid-year experience at the conference, build momentum again as a section, and network and explore partnering with other sections.

As a final note, for any Diversity and Ethics related questions related to our members and our section, please contact our Diversity and Ethics Representative, Anne Begler. She can be contacted through ACR Staff liaison Lynne Kinnucan at lkinnucan@acresolution.org.

Wishing you and yours the very best over the holiday season and in the new year,

Leah Borsa
