POSITION AVAILABLE: State Development Manager – Georgia, Position located in Atlanta, Georgia

DEPARTMENT: State Operations

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Common Cause - GA

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Common Cause Georgia is seeking an experienced fundraiser who will be
responsible for working with the state Executive Director, state board, and the national development staff to increase income for the state and national organizations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Organize and oversee all outreach to existing and potential new major donors through personal contact, mail, electronic communication, and special events; Develop and carry out a major donor strategy using individuals and family foundations that will build a residual multi-year revenue base, achieving established goals; Work with Executive Director to identify and manage potential new foundation grants including preparing drafts, financial and other documents, and insuring compliance with reporting requirements for all grants; Develop a volunteer team and work with board members to organize and oversee twice yearly direct mail member fund drives and achieve established goals; Develop and incorporate an e-mail fundraising program based on Common Cause’s established distribution systems to achieve established goals; Provide staff support around fundraising for annual dinner and other local fundraising events; Draft written materials aimed at multiple audiences to achieve maximum fundraising effectiveness and membership base growth; Maintain, adapt, and expand the electronic database to track and update member and donor history.

QUALIFICATIONS: Well-organized; flexible; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work both independently and with supervision; able to take the lead in growing Common Cause’s state donor revenue in collaboration with the Executive Director and Governing Board; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; minimum of three years experience in fundraising and familiarity with direct mail, donor cultivation, foundation grant writing, and creation of support materials; familiarity with the Atlanta and Georgia philanthropic community is preferred; public interest commitment; experience in non-profit fundraising; ability to work with a variety of volunteers, staff, and board; strong organizational skills; demonstrated skill with computers, including databases, spreadsheet, word-processing is required.
