Organizing Document
September 1, 2006
The ACR Education Section Leadership Committee has approved an Organizing Document to use as a guide for organizing the work of the Education Section. This document will also guide the elections for new section leadership before the ACR 2006 Conference in Philadelphia.
The key change in current section practices is the establishment of what we are calling a Progressive Leadership Rotation. We think that this will divide up the work of the section chairs to be more manageable for those taking on section leadership roles as each Chair position will have different responsibilities within the section.
Every year the ACR Education Section will elect a Chair-Elect who will serve in that capacity for one-year from the end of one Annual Conference to the end of the next Annual Conference. That person will become Chair the following year and Immediate Past-Chair the third year. Being elected to the position of Chair of the Education Section is a 3-year commitment and can prepare individuals for broader ACR leadership positions. The document also outlines the composition of the Leadership Committee – known as the “EdHeads.” Additionally it outlines the responsibilities of each section committee. We hope you will take a look at this document and let us know what you think about it. (Please send comments to me at mblakeway@igc.org with the heading “Organizing Document”. Thanks.)More importantly, we hope you will find a place within this new structure that you can make a contribution to the work of the section. We are looking for new and continuing members to help the section meet its purpose to provide ACR members interested in conflict resolution education with opportunities for networking and improving their understanding and practice of conflict resolution in the field of education. All the best, Marsha S. Blakeway
