Advisory Council Meetings > Meeting 7/04

Consumer Section Advisory Council Quarterly Teleconference

July 9, 2004

Members present:                          Lee Boon , Natalie Fleury

Natalie has been elected to the Wisconsin State Bar Dispute Resolution board. Part of her duties will be to review the Unified Arbitration Act.  (?)  She ….train mediators using Les Aspen USID grant.   She will submit a write-up to Walt about her new career direction for publication in the e-zine.  I will also submit it to Lynne for the ADR update notice.

There was discussion about whether or not to commit to coordinating the ACResolution magazine.  The Consumer Section was invited to be featured in the Spring edition.  Lee can contact the President of the LA ACR Chapter, Steve Sauer, and the President of AAA, who is also a member of the LA Chapter.  Natalie mentioned that AAA lays out aspiration guidelines, which could be an interesting topic for the magazine.  Natalie knows Mary Fons, a Consumer Attorney who has been politically active as an advocate for Consumer ADR legislation.  She might be invited to write something about consumer due process protocol or the ideal ADR process for a consumer dispute.  We also discussed the San Diego TV production consumer dispute resolution program we featured in our newsletter last year as a highlight for creativity and innovation in the profession.  Lee will check to see how many articles, pictures, etc were in the last edition.  This discussion will be continued by email with the other Advisory Council Members for a final decision as soon as possible.

The chosen promotional item seems to be custom-designed post-it notes.  We discussed putting the ACR/Consumer Section logo on each page, possibly as a watermark, with our mission statement and website.  Natalie will contact ACR to see if we might benefit by using their printer.  That could result in a lower cost for printing.  It might be possible to have ours shipped with ACR materials, which would save the inconvenience of a Consumer Section Member trying to bring them to the conference.

Instead of a reception at the conference, we discussed a personal invitation for “Champagne Dinner with the Consumer Section Advisory Council.”  We thought we could identify and invite Consumer Section members who have registered before the conference and then invite any who sign up to become members at the conference.  Lee or Walt might be able to design a professional personal invitation.  This idea will be reviewed by the other Advisory Council members by email.
