What is Project Civil Discourse? It is a special initiative of the Arizona Humanities Council working in partnership with organizations and individuals around the state to provide opportunities for the public to participate in trainings, workshops, forums, book discussions and conferences. These events are designed to share, model and demonstrate proven collaborative problem-solving skills that can enhance and improve dialogue and debate about important issues that affect our future.

The Arizona Association for Conflict Resolution (AACR) is one of the partners of Project Civil Discourse and you are invited to learn more by visiting the website: http://www.projectcivildiscourse.org

AACR is collaborating with the Arizona Town Hall on a morning conference and afternoon luncheon on September 18, 2008. For more details on the conference and luncheon and to register, go to the AACR home page. Several AACR members are presenting at the conference which highlights successful models and allows participants to practice collaborative problem-solving techniques in a choice of workshops. Registration is available at: https://www.123signup.com/event?id=tsdbc

This summer, the Arizona Humanities Council is coordinating a Chinese Film Series at the Arizona Art Museum. In the fall, Project Civil Discourse will be hosting several events. Board Member Art Hinshaw is presently involved in organizing a fall lecture series open to the public at the Arizona Science Center, topic, date and time to be announced. In October 2008, look for more information on the Lorraine Frank lecture. These events will be listed and updated on the Upcoming Events page of this  website.

Take the Project Civil Discourse Pledge:

In an effort to raise awareness that we all need to practice civil discourse in our daily lives, and to call upon civic leaders at every level to use civil discourse techniques to address difficult issues, we have created the Project Civil Discourse Pledge.

I pledge to engage in the basic principles of civil discourse: to respect

diverse points of view, listen with an open mind, and speak with integrity. I call upon all civic leaders to meet the challenge of solving difficult social issues by adhering to these principles, thereby creating a better world for ourselves and future generations.
