Kargo.Net Server Capacity
Overview
Resourceful Internet Solutions, Inc. owns the ISP called Kargo.Net. Eight servers are located behind 3 locked doors, in an air conditioned environment. The servers are located in a rack which is bolted to a cement floor. The servers are also cable locked.
The bandwidth provider is Willamette.net. This is Eugene's oldest ISP; it has three (3) T-3 lines on top of fiber. Because Kargo.Net's servers are co-located on the Willamette.net "campus", we have access to the full bandwidth if needed. Our bandwidth usage is not throttled.
In Kargo.Net's server room, the bandwidth is split by a switch (not a hub) to optimize throughput. In addition, all Network Controllers are 100mbs, not 10mbs.
For security reasons, Kargo.Net has exclusive use of its server room (no other Willamette.net clients are located here).
All of our servers use a "mirrored" scsi hard drive arrangement (Raid 1), with a backup harddrive pre-installed. On this backup drive is also an emergency boot copy of the operating system. In addition, the drive is mirrored periodically to a removable IDE drive for off-site data backup storage. The systems are also kept backed up by tape. This gives us 3 levels of data redundancy. Also, most of the servers use the newest Ultra 2 Wide (80mbs) scsi bus.
The entire system sits on a 2200 UPS system, and in the event of power outage, our servers will stay operational for up to 2 hours. In addition, Willamette.net has its own battery backup array capable of keeping its Cisco Routers on line in the event of a power outage.
The building which hosts Kargo.net/Willamette.net has a 24 hour, 7 day a week security patrol.
The operating system is NT 4, sp 6a. All security issues are kept up-to-date as per the security patches and alerts that Microsoft and Allaire release. The webserver is IIS, ver 4. The dynamic website applications are based on Cold Fusion Enterprise ver 4.5. The data sources are both SQL 7.0 and Access. The mailserver and listserver are Post.Office ver 3.51. The conferencing software is Webboard ver 4.1. The community outreach software is Eroom. The advanced indexing server is Webinator ver. 3.5. The web traffic statistical analysis server is WebTrends ver. 4.0. Kargo.Net serves as its own primary and secondary DNS servers.
