How to Write A Good Web Site

Web copywriting and content development for online is quite different to copywriting for print.

This is because the online reader:

  • Skims rather than reads every word.
  • Jumps from page to page.
  • Doesn't like deep scrolling.
  • Finds reading on screen more difficult.

And copywriting which may have been previously created for offline readers can rarely be successfully used online unless it is expertly edited.

It is important to remember that the site's content is what people are really there to see, so don't forget to proofread, edit, and re-edit your work. Typos and other mistakes are one of the easiest ways to make your site look unprofessional and sloppy.

That said, good design & readability go hand-in-hand. While you choose a Mediate.com layout, colors, and fonts, the first question you ask yourself should be whether it is hard to read your site or if it would give someone a headache if they looked at it for too long. As a general rule, light backgrounds and dark text colors are easier to read, all bold text or all capitals is sometimes hard to read.
