

Dan McDougal is excited about focusing his mediation practice on construction, purchasing and contract disputes, including public and private entities. After 35 years service, he recently retired from Metro Government as Special Projects Manager.
In the early 80's as Head of Purchasing for MDHA he did the fixtures, furniture and equipment for the first convention center. For the next eight years he was the Head City Auditor. From 1992 through 1994 he was Finance Officer for the construction of the Arena, a $150 million project. From 1995 through 1999 he was Finance Officer for the Titans Stadium. a $300 million project. From 1999 through 2003 he was the construction and design services manager for the Department of Finance. From 2003 to his retirement he was Special Projects Manager concluding among other projects, the solid waste plant, a $300 million project. His experience as negotiator and facilitator is invaluable in helping resolve these types of public and private disputes.
Dan received his JD from the Nashville School of Law in 1975, as a classmate of Rose Cantrell, wife of Judge Ben Cantrell, another of our mediators. He has used his law school experience well in his work with the government. He holds inactive status as a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Government Financial Manager. Dan is a founding member of the Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators. He is presently a Supreme Court Rule 31 Listed Civil Mediator. Dan's community service includes founding membership in the Vanderbilt Brain Injury Relief Fund and sustaining membership in Vanderbilt Medical Center's Canby Robinson Society. Dan served with the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam for a year and received the Purple Heart for combat wounds received in battle. Dan and his wife Mandy have two sons, one an attorney in Nashville and one a law student and Air Force pilot in San Francisco, California. They also have three grandchildren who ride horseback, love to drive their grandparents wild and are learning karate. The McDougals recently moved from a home in West Wilson County where he raised Japanese koi and gardened around the pond. Their two basset hounds and cat Toonces reside together peacefully.|
