Board Members 2007-2008

President – Patricia “Trish” Morrison

Trish is currently the Assistant Director for the Division of Registered Apprenticeship, Department of Labor and Industry, DOLI, for the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Previously, she coordinated the State’s Workplace Mediation Program for commonwealth employees as it related to the state grievance process.  She recently presented a workshop at the Association for Conflict Resolution Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona and has done mediation training and communication training for the staff at DOLI. 

President Elect - Vickie R. Williams

Vickie is a mediator, trainer and facilitator. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Elizabeth City State University, Master’s in Public Administration from Old Dominion University, and holds four certifications with the Virginia Supreme Court.

Vickie is a small business owner. Her business, Open-Door Communications meets the needs of the public and private sector by providing consultation on employee concerns as well as facilitation, mediation and workshop development. 

She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and subscribes heavily to their belief that we must all give back to the community. Vickie accomplishes this by serving as Secretary of the Hampton City Military Affairs Committee, Vice President of the Hampton Military History Foundation, alumnae member of the Thomas C. Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership fellowship program, member of the Virginia Association of Conflict Resolution, member of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Council, member of friends of the City of Hampton’s Unity Commission. Vickie believes that conflict is the door to a most needed change and she is committed to help facilitate that belief. 

Immediate Past President - Tazewell T. Hubard

Tazewell is the Director of Conflict Management Associates, LLC, an organization dedicated to guiding companies and individuals through challenging periods of development and transforming difficult decisions and intractable conflicts into opportunities for creativity, mutual gain, and positive change.

He is recognized as a leader in facilitating, designing, and implementing complex and large-scale change initiatives in businesses, organizations, governments and agencies, the Armed Forces, and the academic community. 

Tazewell is a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William & Mary, where he teaches General and Family Mediation, and has served as a member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC, Mediation Panel. 

Treasurer - Tiawanda “Tina” L. Holt

Tina is currently the Consumer Affairs Intake and Dispute Resolution Specialist at the Office of Consumer Affairs within Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs where she uses alternative dispute resolution techniques to resolve consumer complaints.  Tina is a graduate of Penn State where she received her B.S. in Environmental Resource Management with a minor in Business Administration and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University where she received her Masters in Public Administration.  Tina has previously been the Secretary and Treasurer for the Penn State Alumni Association. 

Secretary – Dale B. Robinson

Dale B. Robinson is the Conflict Resolution Program Manager in the Office for Equal Opportunity at Virginia Tech. His role is to make available a variety of conflict resolution processes and strategies, including mediation, to faculty and staff to enable them to resolve disputes in the university setting. He provides leadership, professional development and support to Virginia Tech’s faculty and staff mediators. In addition, Dale serves as a resource in investigating harassment and discrimination complaints for OEO.

Prior to joining the Virginia Tech community, Dale mediated and investigated discrimination complaints filed with the Tennessee Human Rights Commission. In higher education, Dale was lead equal opportunity and affirmative action officer at The College of William and Mary, and he co-founded a campus mediation program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.  He has been active with the Virginia Equal Opportunity Committee, the Tennessee Valley Mediation Association (Past President), the Knoxville Community Mediation Center, and the American Association for Affirmative Action.

At-Large Directors

Karen Asaro

Karen has been providing mediation services since 1980. She is an Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), a member of the ABA’s Section on Dispute Resolution and was on the founding board of Virginia Mediation Network. Karen also served as the founding president of the Virginia Chapter of SPIDR (now ACR). In addition to her mediation practice, Karen has been an adjunct faculty member at Christopher Newport University where she has taught general and family mediation courses for the past ten years.

Lawrence A. "Larry" Martin  

Larry has practiced Family, Criminal and "poverty" law for 33 years in Virginia has mediated for 11 years in Virginia primarily Family and Circuit Court Civil cases.  Larry is a Past-President and Treasurer of ACR-VA one of 4 mediators in Virginia to receive training in Child Dependency Mediation at the DC courts Multi-Door program and established such a program in the Hampton Juvenile Court. Larry has interest and training in Restorative Justice and currently serves as a Staff Attorney for the Commonwealth's Attorneys' Services Council which trains prosecutors throughout Virginia.

John Settle

John is President of SETTLEment Associates, LLC, a firm providing mediation and conflict management training.  He is a member of the Virginia Bar and “Of Counsel” to the Alexandria, Virginia, employment law firm of Riselli and Pressler.  John is certified as a mediator and Mentor Mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia, and he holds Advanced Workplace Mediator status from the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).  John mediates and trains for many federal agencies and private organizations.  Among positions John has held are:  President of the Virginia Mediation Network;  Co-Chair of the Workplace Section of ACR;   and Board Member of the Northern Virginia Mediation Service and the D.C. Chapter of ACR.  He is Virginia Governor Kaine’s civilian appointee to Virginia’s Interagency Dispute Resolution Advisory Council.  John specializes in mediation of workplace disputes and training in conflict management skills.  John also is a contract mediator for the Washington and Baltimore offices of EEOC.  His background includes federal executive positions, and he holds the Presidential award of Meritorious Executive.  John is author of the recently-published book, The Advocate’s Practical Guide to Using Mediation, Dewey Publications, Inc., and he recently co-authored “A Perfect Storm:  A confluence of Problems in Organizational Team Building,” in the Fall/Winter 2007 issue of ACResolution.
